Build partnerships
Why
it matters
Olympia is a diverse, eclectic community with dedicated community organizations and local government agencies that support our students and families. Our community members have experiences and expertise that benefits Olympia’s schools.
How
we do it
Create a community engagement group that joins the Olympia School District, Olympia School District Education Foundation, City of Olympia, local agencies, and non-profits to integrate community supports for our students and families.
Create a community assets map that identifies strengths, supports, and assets in our community.
Bring the school board to community events to provide more opportunities to meet and collaborate.
Establish ongoing advisory committees with students and family members to engage and inform the school board. These committees should include but not be limited to:
Students and families of color
Students and families with disabilities
Students and families who are English language learners
Students and families experiencing poverty and homelessness
Students and families with highly capable, students
Students and families who are highly mobile or in foster care
What
it looks like
Students and families are able to easily find services and navigate community supports to get their needs met.
Educators get the support they need to refer students and families to services in the community.
Community members and organizations are an integral part of our Olympia schools, woven into wraparound services and supports for students and families. Community members have multiple opportunities to share their experiences and expertise and engage in decision-making.
